About OPS

The Oregon Pipers Society was formed in 1987, by a group of pipers and drummers, mostly from the Portland area who were interested in getting together regularly to promote the development and improvement of good pipe music in our community.

By way of monthly events held from October through April each year, OPS has hosted programs featuring competitions, workshops, and recitals or performances by local players, pipe bands, as well as top pipers from the region and throughout the world. In addition, OPS has strived to help young local pipers and drummers by providing annual scholarships.

We have been very fortunate with the generous support and participation of such famous names as Alasdair Gillies, Stuart Liddell, Jack Lee, Bruce Gandy, Bob Worrall, James Troy (Jr & Sr), Alan Bevan, Jori Chisholm and countless others. We have also been privileged to hear such famous drummers as Reid Maxwell, John Scullion, Robert McKendrick, Blair Brown and others.

For added variety, from time to time, we have enjoyed performances by Scottish fiddlers, Highland dancers, Celtic folk singers, harpists, and other performers. We have received loyal participation and support from the various piping communities throughout Oregon and Washington. In particular, our friends in British Columbia have been a tremendous source of support and inspiration, over the years.

We have always been very informally organized, relying on the generous time and support of countless volunteers. View our Board Members and amazing volunteers. Join us!
